One dead, three injured in New Mexico car accident

We often don’t think about how dangerous it is, but getting behind the wheel is one of the most dangerous activities we do every day. Even if you’re a safe driver, there are drivers out there who are reckless and choose to drive drunk or distracted. In addition, there are conditions and hazards out there that can cause an accident and change your life forever.

That happened again in early December in New Mexico, and now one elderly man is dead, and two deputies are injured. A 75-year-old man was driving a Toyota through an intersection when it collided with a Ford F150 carrying two sheriff’s deputies from Taos County. The driver of the Toyota was killed, and his wife was injured, while the two officers in the F150 are being treated at a local hospital.

So far, authorities haven’t indicated if alcohol or distracted driving played a role in the crash. However, a similar accident happened at the same intersection in 2014 and took someone else’s life in the process. Now residents in the community are calling for the Department of Transportation to make it safer. The DOT now says they have plans to do so.

An accident like this is tragic, but it’s also a perfect illustration of an important point. Even if another driver wasn’t negligent in a crash, there are other factors that could have played a role, which means victims of these tragedies may not need to handle the burden of medical expenses, lost wages and funeral costs alone. An attorney may be able to investigate the crash and help victims get the compensation they need to move forward.
