There are several benefits to installing a dash camera in your vehicle. In New Mexico, dash cams have increased in popularity in recent years as the benefits become clearer to the general public.

Here are three good reasons to invest in a dash cam for your vehicle in the event that you are involved in a car accident:

1. Dash cam video can help prove fault

Often when an accident occurs, determining fault is a complicated matter, even when it seems clear who caused the crash. In many cases, it may be your word against the other driver’s, especially if the police report is not clear. Also, insurance companies are notorious for trying to minimize or deny coverage for injury victims. A dash cam reduces ambiguity by providing video evidence of how the crash happened.

2. Road rage incidents are dangerous and should be reported

Road rage is serious, and in far too many cases, road rage is life-threatening or deadly. With a dash cam, you can capture road rage incidents on video, and if there is harm done to you, your vehicle or bystanders, you will have the evidence needed to hold the aggressor accountable.

3. You can capture events that occur while your car is parked

Hit-and-run incidents are unfortunately common in cities and towns throughout New Mexico. You could wake up one morning to find that someone hit your car in the middle of the night and left the scene. Some dash cams allow you to turn the camera on while you are away. You can review the dash cam footage for any video that may help police identify and prosecute a hit-and-run driver. Even if the driver is never found, you could use the video evidence to file an uninsured/underinsured motorist claim, given that you have that kind of coverage.
